The Effect of Ginger Supplementation on the Improvement of Dyspeptic Symptoms in Patients With Functional Dyspepsia

Background Functional dyspepsia (FD) is a common gastrointestinal disorder with higher occurrence in the Western world. Conventional medications are not effective for FD patients turning to alternative herbal medicines such as ginger. This study aimed evaluate effect of ginger supplementation on improvement symptoms. Methodology A before-and-after clinical was conducted at University Debrecen, Internal Medicine outpatient department over period four weeks. Two Swanson supplements each dose 540 mg/day before lunch and dinner were given 51 patients. Wilcoxon signed-rank test used estimate differences symptoms after baseline. The p-value determined association between variables, p-values <0.05 considered cutoff statistically significant association. Results In this study, weeks supplementation, we observed change most follows: postprandial fullness (p = 0.033, 95% CI 0.01-0.26), early satiety 0.001, 0.10-0.37), epigastric pain 0.000, 0.16-0.42), burning 0.003, 0.10-0.45), heartburn 0.209, -0.04-0.20). Conclusions Based our findings can be promising supplementary medicine FD.
